Netherlands 256 kWh Energy Storage Project Delivered

1. Project Overview

Recently, we received on-site installation photos from our customer in the Netherlands. The project features a medium-to-large-scale solar-plus-storage system, which the installer has fully commissioned and brought into official operation.

The complete system consists of two parts:

  • LVFU energy storage batteries: 51.2V 314Ah LiFePO₄ rack-mounted batteries installed across 3 standard cabinets (16 battery modules in total). Each module stores 16.08 kWh, so the system delivers a total capacity of approximately 256 kWh.
  • Inverter and power distribution equipment (supplied by the customer): 6 Victron Energy inverter/chargers together with Fronius PV inverters.

As the site photos clearly show, all battery module indicator lights across the three cabinets glow steady green. The system charges and discharges smoothly, the installation workmanship meets professional standards, and the cabling stays neat and well organized. As a result, the customer is highly satisfied with the overall performance.

2. How the System Works

The system adopts a typical AC-coupled architecture that combines a PV inverter, inverter/chargers, and a lithium battery bank. Each component plays a distinct role, and the energy flows as follows:

2.1 System Architecture

2.2 Operating Modes

☀️During the day (with sufficient solar power) — The solar array generates electricity, the Fronius inverter converts it into AC power, and the system feeds the on-site loads first. Any surplus then flows through the Victron inverter/chargers, which rectify it and charge the LVFU battery bank. This priority logic maximizes solar self-consumption and minimizes grid purchases.

🌙 At night or on cloudy days (with insufficient solar power) — The battery bank discharges through the Victron units and continues to power the loads. Once the battery runs low, the system automatically and seamlessly switches to the utility grid for supplementary supply.

⚡During a grid outage — The Victron MultiPlus/Quattro units rely on a built-in high-speed transfer switch that moves the supply to battery power within 20 milliseconds. Consequently, the loads never experience an interruption, and the whole system effectively functions as a large-capacity UPS.

🔋Smart battery management — Each LVFU battery integrates an intelligent BMS (Battery Management System) that communicates with the Victron system in real time over the CAN bus. It continuously reports voltage, current, temperature, and SOC (State of Charge), while the inverters dynamically adjust charging and discharging power accordingly. This coordination delivers multi-layer protection against overcharge, over-discharge, over-current, and over-temperature, and extends the cycle life beyond 6,000 cycles.

⚙️Parallel operation and three-phase output — The 6 Victron units network through VE.Bus and can be configured for three-phase output. This setup meets the three-phase power demands of commercial and industrial applications and leaves room for future capacity expansion.

3. Why LVFU Batteries Integrate Perfectly with Victron Systems

  1. Protocol compatibility: The LVFU rack battery BMS supports the Victron CAN-bus BMS communication protocol. In addition, it is compatible with mainstream inverter protocols such as Pylontech, Growatt, Deye, GoodWe, and SMA.
  2.  Standard voltage platform: The 51.2V low-voltage platform matches the voltage window of the Victron 48V-series inverter/chargers exactly.
  3.  High-capacity cells: The 314Ah LiFePO₄ prismatic cells store 16.08 kWh per module. Therefore, the system needs fewer parallel modules for the same capacity, which simplifies integration.
  4.  Plug-and-play design: The standard 19-inch rack design comes with pre-configured communication pinouts, so installers can complete on-site setup quickly and easily.

4.Conclusion

From Asia to Europe, LVFU storage batteries now operate alongside the world’s leading inverter brands. The successful delivery of this Netherlands project further confirms the compatibility, stability, and reliability of the LVFU 51.2V 314Ah rack battery in the high-end European storage market.
