Hithium Signs 2GWh Energy Storage Deal with Solarpro, Accelerating Eastern Europe’s Renewable Transition
On September 25, Chinese vertically integrated lithium-ion battery manufacturer Hithium announced that it had signed a 2 GWh master supply agreement with Solarpro. Solarpro, which operates as an EPC company, is a subsidiary of the Austrian clean energy investment firm Renalfa Solarpro Group. The two parties held the signing ceremony in Madrid, Spain.

Expanding Energy Storage Across Eastern Europe
Currently, many Eastern European countries are actively promoting energy storage development. Specifically, their progress is as follows:
- Bulgaria plans to launch multiple energy storage tenders in 2024.
- Romania is expected to provide funding for 2.5 GWh of energy storage this year.
- Hungary has secured €1.1 billion in EU support and has already connected 80 MWh of energy storage projects to the grid.
- Meanwhile, North Macedonia aims to achieve a 1.7 GW renewable energy target and phase out coal-fired power by 2030.
Hithium’s 587Ah and 1175Ah Cells Lead the Large-Format Battery Race
The core technology of this collaboration lies in Hithium’s 587Ah and 1175Ah large-format lithium iron phosphate battery cells. Specifically, these products are designed for long-duration energy storage and effectively facilitate the grid balancing of renewable energy integration.
In terms of application, the 587Ah cell suits two-hour energy storage configurations, while the 1175Ah cell meets four-hour requirements. Meanwhile, the company launched its 6.25 MWh DC switchgear at a German exhibition this May.
Notably, Hithium began mass-producing the 1175Ah battery cell—the industry’s first 1000Ah+ product—at its Chongqing plant in June. Subsequently, the company deployed these cells in a 4 GWh project in Saudi Arabia this August.
Currently, Chinese energy storage companies are competing fiercely in the large-format battery cell market. For instance, EVE Energy, Sunwoda, and BYD have all launched high-capacity battery cell products.
