Rapid industrialization and urbanization are driving a significant increase in electricity demand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Currently, Indonesia&#8217;s energy structure is dominated by fossil fuels, particularly coal, which accounts for over 50% of the energy mix. Renewable energy development is lagging, with solar energy contributing only a small fraction. The government has set a goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2060 and aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 23% by 2030.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2023, Indonesia&#8217;s total electricity generation is approximately 312 TWh, with fossil fuel generation (coal, gas, oil) accounting for over 85%, of which coal power represents around 60%. The total installed capacity for renewable energy is 12.5 GW, predominantly from hydro and geothermal sources, with solar energy contributing only about 273 MW (2023), accounting for less than 0.3%. As industrialization progresses, electricity demand is expected to double by 2030, with an average annual growth rate of around 6.5%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The state-owned electricity company PLN monopolizes the national grid. Indonesia\u2019s grid structure exhibits strong regional fragmentation, primarily divided into:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Java-Bali Grid: Stable power supply with a concentrated population.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sumatra Grid and Sulawesi Grid: Rapid growth in industrial electricity usage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eastern Islands (e.g., Maluku, Papua): Mostly off-grid or isolated systems relying heavily on diesel generation, with generation costs reaching 0.2\u20130.4 USD\/kWh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Government Support:<\/strong>\u00a0The Indonesian government has initiated various policies to encourage renewable energy investments, targeting a 23% share from renewables in the energy mix by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indonesia has yet to establish a complete energy storage market mechanism. Lithium battery costs remain high, and applications are primarily focused on pilot projects.
